EDI Policy

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

CCPN recognises its role in empowering equality and diversity, particularly with its target group of ECRs/post-docs/starting-PIs. Our track record supports our commitment. For example, we have had several ECRs presenting at the CCPN conference who have later gone on to become independent PIs or take up other permanent positions. The composition and working practices of the core team itself also exemplifies good practices, including flexible, part-time and home working, as well as enabling those who have taken time out for caring responsibilities to return to science.

Our core principle involves fostering the careers and wellbeing of all engaged with the project. As part of this, we will promote the following:

  • Using inclusive language in our daily and formal communications.
  • Identifying and wherever possible alleviating any barriers to participation.
  • Enabling hybrid and family-friendly participation in CCPN activities such as its conference or workshops.
  • Striving for gender balance and the inclusion of people from diverse ethnicities in the CCPN conference programme.
  • Actively supporting and promoting the careers of young scientists, including in oversight and steering roles in the CCPN project, e.g. its Executive Committee.
  • Creating an inclusive, collaborative environment through clear communication of aims, expectations and timelines, based on input of and in consultation with all stakeholders.
  • Giving room to and actively supporting the continuous development of technical and other professional skills of all team members.
  • Assessing and, where needed, amending current CCPN practices. Drawing upon the knowledge of the UoL-CLS EDI working group and analogous efforts in the DRIIMB consortium, we will conduct a systematic equality impact assessment and where needed formulate practical and effective recommendations.
