Mac OSX Catalina, Big Sur & Monterey
Mac OSX Mojave and earlier
Instructions for command-line installation:
Uncompress the .tgz file it where you want it on your disk (no blank spaces in the directory path!), either by double-clicking it in the Finder or with tar xzf ccpnmr3.0.4MacOS.tgz .
To start the program, open up an ordinary Mac terminal window and run bin/assign in the ccpnmr3.0.4 directory. You can add the ccpnmr3.0.4/bin/ directory to your PATH, in which case you will then be able to run it just by typing assign. (Creating a symbolic link to /bin/assign will not work.) Alternatively, create an alias in your .bash or .cshrc.
Catalina / Big Sur / Monterey Users
Until we are able to build the software as official Apple Developers (hopefully the case from 3.1 onwards), the executables will have to be removed from ‘quarantine’ before you can use them on the Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey OSXs. After extracting the compressed file, please run the following command in the directory where you have placed the ccpnmr3.0.4 directory:
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine ccpnmr3.0.4
and enter your password. Alternatively, disable the Gatekeeper. Type:
sudo spctl –master-disable
and enter your password. You should then be able to run Analysis without problems.
Linux
Instructions for command-line installation:
tar xzf ccpnmr3.0.4CentOS7.tgz ~/home/users/projects
The above distributions may also work for some other flavours of Linux (please let us know if they do!). If they do not work for a particular Linux variant, please contact us to see if we can work with you to get a distribution ready.

In the unusual event that you get the following error message (or very similar) on CentOS7:
error while loading shared libraries: libXss.so.1
then please run the following command from a terminal window:
yum install libXScrnSaver
to install the missing dependencies.
Windows 10
Instructions for installation and start-up:
Unzip the file (this may be quite a slow process, particularly if you have Avast or similar anti-virus software installed). Then go to the bat directory and double-click on update.bat. Once updates are complete, double-click on assign.bat to start the program. The first time you start the program it may take a while till the main window opens, as all the fonts need to be built.
This is a beta version and you may still encounter various bugs. Please let us know on the forum or by e-mail (support@ccpn.ac.uk) if you encounter any problems, so we can help to fix them.
We recommend running the program on a 64-bit computer with minimum i5 processor. The program may be slow to start up, but should then run okay. You can improve the performance by installing the program on a solid state drive (SSD).
Windows 11
Feedback from users suggests that although the Windows 10 version does run on Windows 11, it can cause some errors or sudden crashes. Until we manage to create a bespoke Window 11 version, we suggest you proceed with caution and keep the auto-backup on.
